Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photo and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, features a 1970s photo of Duke's Restaurant, located at 37 Pleasant Street in Thompsonville.
Though listed as a restaurant, the place was much better known for libations than lunch, according to the recollection of a former customer and as evidenced by the Seagram's 7 sign on the front of the building. Prior to Duke's, Sullivan's Bar had operated at the location.
The property fell into terrible disrepair and was boarded up for a number of years, but in the early 2010s, an amazing transformation began which has resulted in one of Enfield's "hidden gems": Mark's Restaurant.

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's question was, "Who was the head coach of Fermi High School's first state championship ice hockey team?" The answer: Rich Miltz, who guided the Falcons to the 1983 Division II title despite being seeded sixth with a 12-7-1 regular season record. Fermi became a goal-scoring juggernaut in the tournament, defeating Trumbull, Westhill and North Haven by a combined 25-10 score to earn a berth in the finals against top-seeded South Windsor. On March 12, 1983 at the now-defunct New Haven Coliseum, the onslaught continued, as the Falcons scored a shocking 8-5 win to earn the program's first state championship. That same afternoon, Enfield went into overtime before knocking off Notre Dame-West Haven 5-4 to win the Division I title; it remains the only time in state history that two public high schools from the same town won both division titles. Darrell Crowley was the first person to correctly identify Miltz, adding, "By the way, he was also the best accounting teacher ever."
