Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this periodic Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, shows one of the many food establishments which have occupied a small building at 117 Hazard Avenue over the years. Something Fishy did not last long in town, and in the late 1980s, a Chinese restaurant briefly occupied the site before Salvatore "Tito" Fiore opened TJ's, a hot dog stand, in the early 1990s.
In 1994, Ted Sposito opened Guido's Drive-In, a throwback-style restaurant featuring roller-skating waitresses which spent nearly a dozen years in Enfield before moving to Manchester in 2006. Since then, a host of eateries shown below have occupied the space, including Mama Miro's (2009-2014), J. Gumbo's (2014), For Love And Food (2015-2019) and the Go Fresh deli-restaurant (2020-21).

In January of this year, Aurora's Pizza, offering a unique blend of specialty pizzas and authentic Central American delicacies, opened at the location. Here is a contemporary look at the site, taken by yours truly.

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's question was, "Which academic distinction that will last forever in the annals of Enfield history is held by Emma Zorda?" The answer: She was the last person ever to receive a diploma from Enrico Fermi High School at its final graduation ceremony in 2016. Jennifer Bruyette was the first person to provide the correct answer, and former mayor Scott Kaupin submitted this anecdote: "Emma is a family friend and I got to hand her the diploma. As I was handing her the diploma I stated "Emma, do you realize that you are the last graduate of Fermi High School?" Her eyes widened and her smile got a little bigger. For someone who was always last in attendance taking, being last that time was historic."
This week's trivia question:
Who was the first president of Asnuntuck Community College? Directions: leave your answer in the comments section here on the story, not on a Facebook page, and not via email. Have fun!
