Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's installment of this periodic Enfield history series, courtesy of the Facebook group Picture Enfield, features the original Route 5 location of McDonald's, at 385 Enfield Street.
The Ray Kroc-founded fast food chain operated at this location, between Dairy Queen and Colonial Camera, until the 1990s, when the former Abdow's Big Boy restaurant, just under a mile away at 34 Enfield Street, was torn down and replaced with a new McDonald's. The old building was purchased in 2006 by the Hamilton Sundstrand Federal Credit Union (now 360 Federal Credit Union), and a new structure was built which opened in 2007, according to Enfield land records.
Here is a photo of the building as it appears today.

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's question was, "Who was the first president of Asnuntuck Community College?" The answer: Dan McLaughlin, a Michigan native who oversaw the formation of North Central Community College (its original name) and its opening in Sept. 1972 at the former North School on College Street in Thompsonville. Tracey Buchholz was the first person to provide the correct answer; her mother, Connie Beckstead, was the beloved longtime evening coordinator at the college. Phil Dumond wrote of McLaughlin, "I was in his class on Day 1 in North School (8 rooms) on College St. in Thompsonville. Dan McLaughlin was a unique leader and educator; he left his mark at ACC and with all the students and staff!" An original student and later a trustee of the Asnuntuck Foundation, Dumond also included some yearbook pictures of McLaughlin and the original location, show below.

This week's trivia question:
