Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Today's look back at Enfield history highlights a photo of the former Hazardville Pharmacy at 337 Hazard Ave. The business was situated in a two-story clapboard building, constructed just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War in 1860.
The pharmacy was owned for many years by Herbert Light, and was later operated by Ellis and Lorraine Klein.
Since 1996, the site has been home to Connecticut Valley Tobacconist, owned and operated by Mike Tarnowicz.

More on goofy North Street sidewalks:
A recent trivia question about sidewalks curving around trees on North Street prompted this explanation from longtime resident Matt Buanno, who in 1986 helped pour the sidewalks in the new Rye Hill development. "They were beautiful old trees that the builder didn't want to cut down, so he wanted the sidewalk around them. I worked for Coffee Concrete and we did all the sidewalks and garages and basement floors in that development. I think I was 18 or 19 at the time. We were required by the town to run the sidewalks down from High Meadow to the existing houses on North Street just short of North Maple."

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's trivia question was, "A number of Enfield standouts have played professional sports in the past, but who was the most recent town resident to be drafted by one of the four major pro sports leagues (Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Hockey League or the National Basketball Association)?" The answer: Robbie Baillargeon, who was chosen in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL draft by the Ottawa Senators.

This week's trivia question:
