Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield may be infamous for having no less than eight different Dunkin' Donuts shops within its borders, but there is also still a Whole Donut on Route 5. There used to be a second one in Hazardville, but prior to that, it was Bess Eaton Donuts.
Bess Eaton was founded in 1953 in Westerly, Rhode Island. The company grew to over 50 New England locations, but filed for bankruptcy in 2004. The two Enfield locations became The Whole Donut, and the shop at 309 Hazard Ave. closed around 2013.
The late Emile Fortier was area manager in the 1980s and 1990s, and Ann Rossignol worked at the two shops for more than a dozen years. Unfortunately the Hazardville building has been vacant for a number of years, as well as the adjacent car wash. Yes, a car wash and bake shop sharing a building - "how come this muffin tastes like hot wax?"

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's trivia question was, "What company took top honors for best float in the Enfield Bicentennial parade?" The blatantly Googled answer was Lego Systems. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any shots of their winning float, but here are the iconic bricks which stood at the top of the hill at the corporation's Taylor Road entrance for many years.

This week's trivia question:
Who was Joyce Rubenstein? (and no, she did not shoot Lee Harvey Oswald). Post the answer in the comments section below, or on the Enfield Patch Facebook page.
