Picture Enfield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Enfield's past and how that site appears today, plus a trivia question.

ENFIELD, CT — To commemorate Shirley and Fred's 55th anniversary, we return to Jim Malley's outstanding book of his dad Ed's photos, entitled Enfield: 1950-1980, for a 1974 look at the Olympic Sales plant at 215 Moody Road, where Shirley worked for a number of years.
The greeting card, stationery and paper products company was founded in 1966 by Arthur O'Hara, and moved from Windsor Locks into this building in 1970. The company name was changed to Olympia Sales in 1990.
The plant on Moody Road closed a few years ago, with O'Hara's son Tom moving the company's headquarters to 585 Hazard Ave. VCRV LLC of South Windsor bought the Moody Road facility for $2.6 million in 2016, according to Enfield property records.

Preferred Display, a New Jersey-based company which creates, designs, engineers and produces prestige open sell cosmetic displays, moved into the building amid much fanfare in 2017, but apparently shut down its Enfield plant within the past year or so.
Here is a contemporary look at the building, taken by me Friday morning.

Last week's trivia answer:
Last week's trivia question was, "Since the inception of the CAS-CIAC Scholar-Athlete Awards, 135 student-athletes from Enfield have been honored (including my son Alex in 2017 - excuse the proud dad moment there). Of those 135, five have been subsequently elected as individuals to the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame; curiously, all five attended Enfield High School. Name them." The answers, with their year of award and year of Hall of Fame induction: Kelly Brantner (1984, 2003), Sharon Leonard (1989, 2011), Kristin Carvill (1990, 2009), Keith Emery (1990, 2011) and Lisa Scavotto (1997, 2019). The first person to answer correctly was Jon LeBlanc, who was the first Fermi boy to receive the honor in the inaugural year of 1984.
This week's trivia question:
Who was the sponsor of my Thompsonville Little League championship-winning team in 1977, and no, it was not Chico's Bail Bonds. Post the answer in the comments section below, or on the Enfield Patch Facebook page.
