Enfield Business Owner Found Dead In Local Gun Shop: Cops

A heavy police presence closed a section of Route 5 Friday afternoon as a local business owner was found dead, police said.

ENFIELD, CT — Police descended on 660 Enfield St. on Friday afternoon for what they were terming an investigation over a distraught business owner, who was later found dead inside the building, law enforcement officials said.

It was an apparent suicide, police said.

The location is home to a local gun shop named, "A Call To Arms." Police arrived there at about 3 p.m., Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox said.

Enfield Street is the local name for state Route 5. Route 5 was closed at Belmont Avenue and at Montano Road for nearly an hour, police said. Some school buses had to be re-routed, officials said. Fire officials were also at the scene. Neighbors were also urged to remain at home during the incident, Fox said.

Fox said police were alerted to the situation when, "statements from the business owner gave us cause for concern about his wellbeing."

At about the same time, the landlord was headed to the building to check on it, accompanied by a police officer, Fox said.

Because of the nature of the business, police decided to use caution and call in a regional tactical team, Fox said.

Fox said police are not officially identifying the man, per protocol, while the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner investigates.

The building owner of record is 660 Enfield Street LLC. The building used to house a two bank branches before the gun shop moved in roughly two year ago. It was formerly at 90 Enfield St. and opened in 2013.
