Popular Enfield Sports Bar Closes After More Than Two Decades

The longtime Elm Street restaurant, which first opened in 2000 and later changed ownership, is no longer operating.

ENFIELD, CT — A longtime sports bar at Elm Plaza appears to have closed its doors, with its online presence wiped and no public announcement explaining the shutdown.

Chicago Sam’s, located at 95 Elm St., appears to have closed within the last few days. The restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram pages have been deleted, calls to the business went unanswered, and a visit to the Elm Street location confirmed it is no longer operating.

According to information previously published on the restaurant’s website, the Enfield sports bar opened in 2000 after a group of six owners and managers with more than a century of combined restaurant experience launched the concept. The business described itself as an all-American sports-themed restaurant offering a full menu, a wide selection of beers, and extensive television coverage for live games, along with space for private parties, office events, and catering.

The website also stated that after 17 years in operation, the restaurant changed ownership in 2017. At that time, the new owners refreshed the look of the space and updated the menu while aiming to preserve its identity as a hometown gathering spot for food, drinks, and watching sports.

No statement has been issued about the closure, and it remains unclear whether the shutdown is permanent or if the location could reopen under new ownership.
