Small Bridge in Enfield Closed Indefinitely

A DOT inspection revealed concerns about the bridge's structural integrity.

ENFIELD, CT — A small bridge over Freshwater Brook in the Thompsonville section of towns has been closed indefinitely by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Effective immediately, the South River Street bridge between Main and Asnuntuck streets is closed to all vehicular traffic except emergency vehicles. The DOT completed a re-inspection of the bridge Tuesday, which revealed concerns about the bridge’s structural integrity.

The Enfield Department of Public Works is exploring emergency repair options and will post updates, including an estimated time for re-opening on the DPW website, Everbridge and through social media.
