Stolen Vehicle Pursuit on I-91 Ends in Enfield

The suspect was captured after fleeing on foot into a wooded area, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — A state police pursuit of a stolen vehicle Monday afternoon began in East Windsor and culminated in Enfield, when a suspect was captured in a wooded area after fleeing on foot.

According to a state police report, the incident began on Interstate 91 northbound near exit 45 in East Windsor around 1:36 p.m., when a trooper attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The driver, later identified as Javon Alston, 21, of Hartford, engaged police in a pursuit, which ended when the stolen vehicle crashed on the off-ramp of exit 47E in Enfield.

After the crash, Alston fled on foot into a wooded area in the Enfield Industrial Park. State police were joined by police from Enfield and Manchester, as well as a canine unit, police said.

Alston was apprehended after about two hours, and was charged with third-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit and operating without a license. Bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Enfield Superior Court.
