ENFIELD, CT — In view of the fact a number of activities planned for this academic year did not take place, members of the Enfield Teachers' Association recently voted to donate funds allocated for those activities to several nonprofit organizations helping the needy in town, as well as the Enfield High School graduating class.

"We wanted to assist in meeting the needs of our community in this unprecedented time. We also set funds aside to acknowledge our high school seniors," Enfield Street School kindergarten teacher Cathy Carroll said.

The Enfield Food Shelf and the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen each received $2,000 from the organization. According to union president Emily Hulevitch, the executive board also voted to donate $2,000 for community needs, and an additional $2,000 to the Class of 2020.

"Staff and administrators are working closely with senior class officers and any other interested seniors regarding what they would like to have happen, given the circumstances," Carroll said. "We would like to offer the donation toward those happenings. Perhaps we can make it even better. We have known these kids for the majority of their lives, so it seems very fitting to do something special under circumstances unlike any we have ever experienced."
