Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

A photo and story of businesses from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch publishes a photo of a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence.

Today we return to the photo book Enfield: 1950-1980 to an aerial view taken in the 1960s of King's Korner, at the junction of King Street (Route 5) and Depot Hill Road.

Dominating the photo is the Della Construction Co. office building and construction yard, founded by Nick DellAquila. That area of Depot Hill Road is currently home to Tri-State Diesel.

The small businesses just east of the construction company along Route 5 included King's Korner Service Station, King's Korner Package Store, King's Korner Barber Shop, Sue's Luncheonette and the King Street Market. Today, the sole business in that stretch is the YardeHouse Tavern.

Enfield: 1950-1980, produced by James Malley, is a collection of pictures taken by his father, renowned local newspaper photographer Edward Malley.
