Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?
A photo and story of businesses from Enfield's past.
ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch publishes a photo of a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence.
Today we return to the wonderful photo book Enfield: 1950-1980 to a picture taken in the 1960s of what was then known as the Green Manorville Shopping Parkade.
Located at the corner of Hazard Avenue (Route 190) and Taylor Road on the eastern edge of Enfield, the shopping center was anchored by the A & P Food Store. At the time of this photo, other businesses in the plaza included the Scitico Laundercenter, Valetone Dry Cleaners, Brooks Pharmacy, Gaetano's Beauty Studio, Green Manor Barber Shop, Ben Franklin, the Pizza Shoppe, Ann's Dance Studio, Kofsky's shoe store and Suffield Savings Bank.

The parkade was later renamed Scitico Plaza, the moniker it maintains today.
Nearly 40 years ago, on Oct. 16, 1976, a huge fire destroyed a large portion of the plaza. It was rebuilt, and in 1977, Scitico Market moved into the anchor spot on the western end, where it remained until closing in March 2010.

Family Dollar moved into the former market site in Aug. 2011. Club Fitness occupies the eastern side of the plaza; other tenants include JB's Scitico Barbershop, Specialty Plumbing, Quarters For My Daughters Laundromat and Integrity Martial Arts.
Enfield: 1950-1980, produced by James Malley, is a collection of pictures taken by his father, renowned local newspaper photographer Edward Malley.
