Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.

Today we go back more than 55 years to a 1961 newspaper ad from a longtime local institution, the T'ville Bowl.

Located at 98 Elm Street, the lanes offered nine adult leagues and a Saturday morning junior league at the time. The business was operated by Robert "Hitchcock" Burnham, who worked in the bowling industry from 1957 until 1999, and passed away in Jan. 2009.

The bowling alley sat on land currently occupied by the Enfield Square.

The town of Enfield has not had a bowling center since the closure of Enfield Lanes on Route 5 in the early 1980s.
