Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?
An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark that is no longer in town through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.
Today's offering comes from the 1982 Fermi High School yearbook: an ad from The Sporting House of Enfield, tucked away out of sight except from the exit 46 ramps of Interstate 91. The 46,000 square foot facility, officially located at 3 Weymouth Road, was constructed in 1970, and was hugely popular during the racquetball and fitness boom of the 1980s.
Several ownership and name changes have followed in the past three decades, including a long stint as New England Health and Racquet Club. The current tenants are Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness, Parisi Speed School and Absolute Serenity beauty salon.
