Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark that is no longer in town through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.

Today's memory comes from the 1987 Fermi High School yearbook: a simple ad from one of the most popular teen hangouts of the late 1970 through mid 1980s, Jonathan's Arcade.

Located in the Enfield Outlet Mall (formerly the Enfield Suburban Mall) on Hazard Avenue, the arcade originally featured early video games like Pong and Breakout. Later, during the video arcade boom years, came Space Invaders (1978), Asteroids (1979), Pac-Man (1980) and Tempest, Donkey Kong and Frogger (all 1981).

Neighboring mall tenants during Jonathan's era included Woolco, Eddie's Sporting Goods, Music Outlet, the 190 East Lounge, Crazy Joyce's and Carvel Ice Cream.

Enfield Patch invites readers to share their memories in the comments section below.
