Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?

An old advertisement and story of a business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark that is no longer in town through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1980s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.

Today we look back 40 years to the 1977 Fermi High School yearbook, to a quartet of ads from local small businesses.

Buczkowski Insurance, operated for 23 years by the late Helen Buczkowski, was located at 404 Hazard Ave., which is currently a private residence. Richard Berozsky, who still lives in town, was one of the top photographers in Enfield before his retirement. Bromage-Wilcox Insurance Agency, formerly at 137 Hazard Ave., was located for many years at 74 Palomba Drive; following the retirement of owner Howard Bromage, the agency merged with Ferguson & McGuire. Finally, Provencher's Carpet at 46 Pearl Street burned down in March 1979.
