Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...?
An old advertisement and story of businesses from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT — In this weekly series, Enfield Patch remembers a business or landmark that is no longer in town through publication of old advertisements from some 1960s-1990s Enfield and Fermi high school yearbooks and early-1960s to mid-1980s telephone directories and newspapers.
Today we visit the 1983 Fermi High School yearbook, and check out a pair of ads from former businesses located across town from each other: Bridge's Building Supply on Route 190 and Pollyanna's Beauty Salon on Route 5.
The Bridge family owned businesses in Hazardville dating back to the late 1800s. Bridge's Building Supply, more commonly known as Bridge's Lumber, was located for many years at 423 Hazard Avenue, across from St. Bernard Church and the current site of Kelly-Fradet Lumber Mart.

Pollyanna's Beauty Salon was located at 515 Enfield Street, a site which is currently part of Artioli Chrysler Dodge Ram. In 1992, Pollyanna's was one of the original sponsors of the Enfield Dek Hockey Association, with team members sporting bright yellow jerseys.
Enfield Patch invites readers to share their memories in the comments section below.
