Top Scholars Named at Enfield High School

The valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2018 were announced Tuesday.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield High School has announced the top two scholars of the graduating class of 2018. Aurelie Barry has been named valedictorian, while Jason Chen has earned the honor of salutatorian.

Barry was a part of the Connecticut Association of Schools, where she helped facilitate leadership workshops for her peers and elementary school students. She was the president of the National Honor Society and served on the Enfield Youth Council. Additionally, she participated in the Youth Vote and was class secretary during her sophomore and junior years.

Barry played on the Enfield High School girls soccer team for four years and was a J.V. captain for two seasons. She was also a member of Riley’s School of Dance for 14 years. Before high school, she attended St. Bernard’s School for K-8. She is looking forward to studying Health Science at Emmanuel College in Boston this fall.

Chen is a member of the EHS chapter of the National Honor Society and has achieved high honors all four years of his high school career. He received numerous department awards, including Excellence in Chemistry, French and several math courses. He is a member of Societe Honoraire de Francais and is involved in many acts of volunteering and community service programs, such as the local Food Shelf.

In addition to his many accomplishments in the classroom, Chen is also a student-athlete, participating as a member of the Enfield volleyball team for the past two years. He will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to major in Chemical Engineering in the fall of 2018.
