ENFIELD, CT — Cranbrook Boulevard, a small commercial street notorious for flooding during nearly every significant rainstorm, will soon be reconstructed.

Beginning Monday, Hinckley Construction will start improvements, including road reconstruction, repaving of the roadway surface with hot mix asphalt, replacing catch basin tops, rebuilding existing catch basins, drainage improvements, resetting existing utility structures, installing pavement markings, installing new signs, replacing existing sidewalks, new sidewalk construction, driveway apron reconstruction, and other incidental work.

Four other town roads will also soon undergo reconstruction, including a segment of Moody Road between Elm and North Maple streets. The others are in the North Thompsonville section of town: Cheryl Drive, Edmund Lane and Stephen Drive.

The town has provided the following list of expectations for residents and motorists:

  • Before any excavation starts, you will see paint marks in the road and survey stakes in front yards; these are used as reference points for the contractor’s work. The stakes are intentionally set back from the work area and outside the actual limits of excavation so that they are not displaced during the excavation process. You should not assume that the stakes indicate the new edge of road.
  • Because these roadways will be reconstructed, all the driveway aprons will need to be cut and a portion of front yards within the town’s right of way will have to be disturbed in order to accommodate installation of the new road elevation. The town will make every effort to minimize the portion of driveways and front yards disturbed.
  • All driveway aprons will have a 1-inch to 1.5-inch lip at the edge of road to maintain the gutter and all driveways saw cuts will be sealed with joint filler upon completion of the driveway apron replacement.
  • Please note that neither the town of Enfield nor the contractor will be responsible for damage to sprinkler systems or other landscape amenities, either above or below ground, located within the town’s right of way, which typically extends a foot from the edge of the existing sidewalks on the house side. It is the individual landowner’s responsibility to remove sprinkler systems or landscape amenities in front of the landowner’s property before the contractor commences work. Sprinkler systems and landscape amenities that are left in the town’s right of way will be removed by the contractor, as needed, in order to complete the project.
  • As with all construction projects, residents should expect heavy equipment and trucks on the road during construction.
  • Due to the heavy construction equipment, parking will not be allowed on the street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; please park vehicles on the adjacent streets.
  • An inspector will be on site during construction and easily identifiable by a yellow safety vest labeled Enfield Inspector on his/her back. This inspector is your initial point of contact for any questions or concerns during construction.

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding this project is asked to contact J.P. Rodriguez, Road Engineer, at 860-763-7095 or via email at jrodriguez@enfield.org.
