ENFIELD, CT — The Friendly's restaurant on the grounds of the Enfield Square was shut down Wednesday afternoon after a driver crashed into the building.

The crash occurred at restaurant's take-out window and lobby area at 2:56 p.m., causing some minor structural damage. A manager said a person driving a gray or silver van is believed to have accelerated over the sidewalk and into the building. Capt. Jeff Golden said the operator was an elderly woman.

Thompsonville Fire Marshal Scott Ellis said no injuries were reported, but the restaurant manager said the site would be closed pending examination by a building inspector. She said the restaurant would reopen "hopefully tomorrow."
