What’s Still Ahead In Enfield’s America 250 Celebration

The town's remaining America 250 calendar includes concerts, talks, dedications and summer festivities.

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield’s America 250 committee has a full slate of events still ahead this year as the town continues marking the nation’s 250th anniversary with public programs running through December.

Upcoming events include the Thomas Abbey Restoration Kickoff on April 9 at 1295 Enfield St., the Jonathan Edwards Monument Rededication on April 25 at 1370 Enfield St., and a screening of Ken Burns’ “The American Revolution” on April 29 at the main library.

The schedule continues May 2 with the Enfield Community Chorus concert, “Stars, Stripes, and Song,” at Enfield High School, followed by the Dedication of Veterans Banners on May 19 at Town Hall and a May 20 library author event tied to “The Traitor’s Homecoming.”

Other events on the calendar include “Meet John Adams” on June 17 at the main library and the Enfield Fourth of July Celebration and 250th Tent, scheduled for July 10 through July 12 at Town Hall.

Late-summer and fall programming includes “From Colonies to Independence: Songs of America’s Transition” on Aug. 12, “The Web They Wove: Women & Wardrobes in the Revolution” on Sept. 16 and “Jordan Freeman: Witness to History” on Oct. 14, all at the main library.

The final stretch of the schedule includes the Veteran’s Day Parade and Purple Heart Lecture on Nov. 8 at Town Hall and Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 19 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The events are part of Enfield’s local observance of America’s 250th anniversary and are being presented with support from the Enfield America250 Coordinating Committee and community partners. Most programs are free.
