Wreaths Across America Caravan Tours Enfield Schools [VIDEO]
Walmart trucks loaded with wreaths for National Wreaths Across America Day stopped in Enfield on their way to Arlington National Cemetery.
ENFIELD, CT — Each year prior to National Wreaths Across America Day, Walmart trucks loaded with wreaths make the trek from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery, with an additional truck destined for Shanksville, Penn. After a brief hiatus, the caravan traveled through Connecticut Wednesday, making its only state stop in Enfield.
Escorted by a pair of Enfield Police Department vehicles, the trucks left Walmart in East Windsor shortly after 10 a.m., and followed a route designed to have them slowly pass by each public school in Enfield. At each site, students and staff members turned out in full force, enthusiastically cheering and thanking the drivers and holding up signs of support and love. Each school was also manned by a first responder unit, coming from Enfield, Suffield and Somers.
Following an hour-long tour of town, the trucks ended up at the town green, where a brief wreath-laying ceremony took place with Commanders Lucien Lefevre of American Legion Post 154 and Tony Torres of American Legion Post 80. The drivers then resumed their journey southbound.
