The body found along the Connecticut River Thursday afternoon is a person from South Windsor who had been reported missing, officials said Friday.

Bill Flood, media relations manager for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said the investigation of a missing person from South Windsor led law enforcement to a marina in Chester on Thursday.

A short time later, the missing person was located, deceased, near a dinghy ashore Selden Island in the Connecticut River, according to Flood. Selden Island is in the town of Lyme.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, and the office will determine the individual’s cause and manner of death.

“There is no apparent criminal aspect to the incident, and no threat to the public,” Flood said.

The Connecticut State Police also responded to the scene to assist DEEP with its investigation.

Officials as of Friday afternoon had not released the name of the victim.
