• Driver flown to Hartford Hospital after Essex crash (thehour.com) — An overnight single-car crash on Westbrook Road in Essex left a driver unconscious and trapped after their vehicle hit a tree and rolled down an embankment. A passing state trooper discovered the wreck around 11 p.m., and local firefighters and EMS freed the victim, who was airlifted by Life Star to Hartford Hospital and is now in stable condition.
   

• Dog abandoned at a Connecticut state park survives nor'easter, turns up on porch (ctinsider.com) — Regional Animal Control, which serves Essex and nearby towns, helped track a small Maltese abandoned in Killingworth's Chatfield Hollow State Park and left outside during last weekend's nor'easter. After days of searching with cameras and drones, the dog finally wandered onto a local porch and is now safe, while authorities investigate the abandonment.
