The Sailing Masters of 1812 will again be hosting the annual Burning of the Ships parade and celebration on May 9th. The Burning of the Ships event commemorates the attack on Essex during the War of 1812. Many fife and drum corps from Connecticut and Massachusetts are scheduled to perform as well as the U.S. Navy’s Silver Dolphins. Step off for the parade will be at 2pm from the Essex Town Hall and will make its way down Main Street to the CT River Museum where each corps will play a few tunes and the Silver Dolphins will exhibit an outstanding display of skill and training.
