Here are the top four stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are three local drop off location: the Chester Town Hall, Tri-Town Youth Services in Deep River and the Essex Town Hall. Residents can turn in all unused and unwanted medication. Hope to see you there! (Town of Essex – Government via Facebook)
  2. The Valley Regional High School Career Center is looking to expand its network within the community. It is looking for career mentors, guest speakers, internships or job shadowing opportunities for future graduates. The center would like to represent all occupations and career pathway options. If you are interested in supporting the Career Center and the Capstone Experience, please contact Renee Fragola at (860) 526-5328 ext 2408 or rfragola@reg4.k12.ct.us. Thank you! 3. Riders of the Essex Steam Train are getting an eye full this fall with the vibrant fall foliage lining the Connecticut River Valley. However, a reduced workforce is holding some businesses back from being open to take advantage of the surge in visitors. According to NBC Connecticut, normally, Kevin Dodd, president and CEO of Essex Steam Train and Riverboat is able to run both the train and the Lady Katherine riverboat up and down the river, but this year was a different story. "We opted to keep Lady Kate closed this year because finding enough people consistently to make sure we can provide the experience that people expect from us, we couldn't guarantee it," Dodd said. Despite the labor shortage, Dodd said it's been a positive fall. Tickets for the North Pole Express have already sold out for this holiday season. (NBC Connecticut)
  4. Here is the CT Insider's list of several shows and movies filmed in the Nutmeg State that are available to watch now or are premiering soon: "Mr. Harrigan's Phone" filmed in Norwalk and Westport, "Call Jane" filmed in Hartford, "The Good Nurse" filmed in Stamford and "The Noel Diary" filmed in Manchester, Madison, Essex and New Canaan. So on the next cold rainy day, cuddle up on the couch with a loved one and check out some of these shows and movies. See if you you recognize the scenes from CT. (CT Insider)
