Rep. Palm Calls For Volunteers With Step Up Connecticut

Dear Neighbor,

Looking for ways to help your fellow Connecticut residents, especially during the holiday season? Join the Step Up Connecticut Team!

Step Up Connecticut is a state initiative to enlist healthy individuals who are able and willing to help in the fight against the ongoing pandemic. Volunteers and staff are crucial to ensuring that our fellow residents have access to goods and services they depend on.

Recently, one of my constituents suggested to me that Connecticut should put in place a trained civilian corps to be used as a force to help in the battle against this disease. I passed along that constituent's recommendation during a meeting with state officials shortly after, so I am pleased to see a form of that idea come to fruition in this initiative.

While hospital volunteers and nursing home staff are in high demand, a variety of roles are needed in numerous other fields. Along with health care workers, the state is seeking people willing to:

• Become a substitute teacher
• Become a non-medical volunteer at a hospital
• Volunteer for or support organizations that distribute food to those who need to stay home
• Donate personal protective equipment
• Volunteer at a COVID-19 testing site

Along with continuing to wear masks, limit gatherings, and practice social distancing, there are so many more ways we all can help fight this ongoing pandemic and its effects on our citizens. To learn more about the opportunities to get involved, click HERE.
