Visitor Removes Pride Month Display Books At Essex Library

Essex Library officials said they were "disappointed and troubled" after someone removed 20 books from a curated display for Pride month.

ESSEX, CT — An anonymous person removed about 20 books from an Essex Library display celebrating Pride month. The display's materials were found and restored.

The incident occurred Saturday.

"We are disappointed and troubled by the unauthorized disassembly of the displays and removal of the materials and are actively investigating the matter," Essex Library posted on Facebook.

"Essex Library is committed to providing free access to information for all individuals and families in our community and supports each person’s and each family’s freedom to choose what they want to read and to decide what is important or relevant for their own lives."

The Pride materials have since been found and the displays restored.

The Ivoryton Library Association commented on the post offering their support: "The Ivoryton Library shares your deep disappointment and expresses a wish for more tolerance and understanding in our community. We stand with you."

The news comes shortly after anti-LGBTQ signs were placed near town hall in Greenwich following a Pride celebration early this month.
