Winter Sports at Valley Regional High School On Hold

Although the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference released their Winter Sports Plan, VRHS has pressed pause for now.

ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT — Winter sports at Valley Regional High School are on hold and will not begin on Tuesday, January 19. District leaders are seeking further input from local health officials before any final decisions are made. A letter was sent out by Valley Regional High School Principal, Mike Barile and Athletic Coordinator Jeff, Swan:

Dear VRHS Athletes, Parents & Guardians,
Yesterday, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) released their Winter Sports Plan. Building and district leaders have been in direct communication with our local health departments and our Shoreline partner schools to review the CIAC plan and determine what is possible for the winter athletic season this year.
In order to properly review the CIAC plan, it is imperative that we seek input from our local health officials. As a result, we will need additional time and will not begin winter season practices on January 19. Our goal is to provide a safe sporting season for our student-athletes and coaches.
As soon as we have made a decision, you will be notified. If your student has not registered, make sure to register through our online portal which can be accessed by clicking the following link.
As always, thank you for your support and patience.
Mike Barile, Principal
Jeff Swan, Athletic Coordinator
