2 Greens Vandalized At Fairfield's H. Smith Richardson Golf Course

The damage totaled about $1,200, according to staff.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The greens on the 8th and 9th holes at the H. Smith Richardson Golf Course in Fairfield were vandalized this week, causing at least $1,200 worth of damage, according to staff.

Fairfield police are investigating the incident at the municipally owned golf course on Morehouse Highway. Staff reported the damage on Monday.

State Sen. Tony Hwang posted photos of the damage on Facebook.

The expertly maintained Championship Golf Course, with its lush rolling hills, is widely considered one of the premier public courses in Fairfield County.

"Sad and infuriating to see this senseless vandalism at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course (greens on 8th and 9th holes)," Hwang, an avid golfer, wrote. "This is a fabulous public facility that belongs to our entire community, enjoyed by thousands of Fairfield residents and visitors.

"Deliberately damaging the greens shows an appalling lack of respect for our community, the golfers who use the course, and the hardworking staff who maintain it. There is simply no excuse for this kind of destructive and criminal behavior. Our Fairfield community deserves better."
