2 Stranded Kayakers Rescued From Long Island Sound: Fairfield PD

The kayakers were in the water, clinging to a channel marker near South Benson Marina, when they called 911, Fairfield police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two stranded kayakers were rescued Tuesday by emergency crews in Fairfield, according to police.

One of the kayakers called 911 about 12:30 p.m. and reported he and his friend had been kayaking on the Long Island Sound when their vessels overturned and were swept away by the current, police said. The caller said the two kayakers were in the water, clinging to a channel marker near South Benson Marina in drysuits and life jackets, according to police.

Police and fire officials responded, bringing the kayakers to an ambulance and retrieving the kayaks, authorities said. One kayaker was taken to receive medical care for exposure after water penetrated his drysuit, according to police.
