2 Teens Rescued Near Southport Harbor After Paddleboarding Mishap

The caller who reported the incident told officials the teens were signaling for help and had no personal flotation devices.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two teens were recently rescued near the mouth of Southport Harbor, according to officials.

Emergency personnel responded Wednesday evening to the area as the young couple was being blown out of the harbor channel and toward the rocks by strong currents and a westerly wind, according to the Fairfield Fire Department. The caller who reported the incident told officials the teens were signaling for help and that the pair had an oar and a paddleboard, but no personal flotation devices.

When first responders arrived, the couple was in the water, according to the fire department. Officials used an aviation unit and a marine unit to bring the pair to safety. Neither of the teens was injured.
