30th Food Drive To Be Held By Fairfield Residents

Soaring prices have increased demand at many food banks that supply staples to low-income families.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A group of Fairfield residents will hold their 30th food drive Saturday.

“Vulnerable members of our community continue to face challenges and new needs including providing food and meals to their families,” co-organizer Alexis Harrison said in a news release.

Soaring prices have increased demand at many food banks that supply staples to low-income families. Those who are squeezed by higher housing and fuel costs have less to spend at the grocery store, where prices are 6.3 percent higher than they were a year ago, according to the news release from the food drive's organizers.

The event will take place 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to benefit Operation Hope’s food pantry. People can drop off and donate without getting out of their vehicles at Operation Hope, 636 Old Post Road.

Fairfield residents Helene Daly, Heather Dubrosky and Harrison started weekly community food drives in March 2020 in response to the overwhelming demand that local food pantries and agencies experienced following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
