FAIRFIELD, CT — Five people were rescued Monday by Fairfield police after their inflatable raft was blown almost a mile out to sea.

Law enforcement received a 911 call about 4 p.m. reporting a group in distress aboard a raft on the Long Island Sound near the 900 block of Fairfield Beach Road, the police department said in a Facebook post. The department sent a marine unit, which found the raft and recovered its five occupants about three-quarters of a mile from the shore, near the 2000 block of Fairfield Beach Road, according to police.

No one was injured, police said, noting the group was not from the area and was unfamiliar with the town’s beaches and regulations, but that they were warned of their violations.
