FAIRFIELD, CT — Academy Award nominated actor and director Bradley Cooper filmed scenes for his new Netflix movie, "Maestro," at a private home in Fairfield this week, Mark Barnhart, the town's director of Community and Economic Development, confirmed to Patch.

The film, in which Cooper stars as famed conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, is described on IMDB.com as, "The complex love of Leonard and Felicia, from the time they met in 1946 at a party and continuing through two engagements, a 25 year marriage, and three children."

Barnhart did not disclose the exact location of the filming, but the Fairfield Citizen reported the home was off of Dunham Road.

During filming, mysterious yellow signs that read "Rybernia Crew Parking" and "Rybernia Base Camp" popped up around town to guide the crew to the set location, according to the Citizen. Rybernia was used as a code name for the production.

Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan co-stars as Felicia Montealegre, and Maya Hawke also stars in the film as Jamie Bernstein, one of the couple's daughters.

The film is Cooper's directorial followup to the award-winning feature, "A Star Is Born," in which he co-starred with Lady Gaga.

"Maestro" is just the latest Hollywood production to film scenes in Fairfield, according to Barnhart.

"Our office coordinates and issues film location permits for the Town," Barnhart wrote in an email. "The volume of such requests vary from year to year, and cover a range of productions ranging from student shorts to magazine photo shoots to made for TV movies to feature films."

In 2021, three feature productions were filmed in Fairfield, Barnhart said:

  • "The Good Nurse," starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne; about serial killer and nurse Charles Cullen
  • "The Noel Diary," starring Justin Hartley, Bonnie Bedelia and Treat Williams; about a man who is granted a Christmas wish to rewrite his past
  • "Mr. Harrigan's Phone," starring Colin O’Brien, Cyrus Arnold and Donald Sutherland; a Stephen King story about a boy who befriends a billionaire, and the two can communicate via an iPhone buried with the billionaire after his death
