FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Arts Commission is launching Local Walls, a pilot program designed to connect local artists with local businesses through rotating art installations across town. Under the program, selected artwork will be placed in participating businesses for approximately 90-day rotations, creating what the commission described as a connected community art experience in everyday spaces.
The program is being introduced as a curated pilot, with the initial launch set to include a small group of artists and businesses. According to the commission, it plans to expand the effort based on community engagement. The goal is to bring more local art into public view while building stronger ties between artists, businesses and the broader Fairfield community.
"Local Walls is a way to support local artists while activating spaces throughout Fairfield," said Fairfield Arts Commission Chair Charlie MacDonald. "It creates visibility, connection and a stronger sense of place."
Artists selected for the program will receive increased exposure, promotion and possible sales opportunities. Participating businesses are expected to benefit from an enhanced customer experience, added foot traffic and a closer alignment with Fairfield’s cultural identity.
The rotating model means artwork will move through participating locations on a roughly 90-day schedule, helping create a town-wide experience rather than a single-site display. The commission said the installations are intended to make art part of daily life by placing it in spaces residents and visitors already use.
Local artists and businesses are invited to express interest in joining the pilot. The commission said short, no-commitment forms are available online for both artists and business participants.
For more information, residents can visit the Fairfield Arts Commission Local Walls webpage or contact the Fairfield Arts Commission at arts@fairfielct.org. The pilot is expected to begin with a limited group before any broader expansion tied to community response.
