FAIRFIELD, CT — Make Music Day will return to Fairfield on Sunday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The event marks Fairfield's ninth year participating in Make Music Day, an annual music celebration held on the summer solstice. Organizers said this year's event will feature more than 100 performers, 18 venues and more than 70 performances throughout the day.

Make Music Day began in Paris in 1982 as "Fête de la Musique" and is now celebrated in more than 2,000 cities worldwide, according to organizers.

The event includes performances representing a variety of musical styles. Organizers said participation is open to musicians of all experience levels. Performances are scheduled to take place at locations throughout town, including parks, sidewalks, beaches, front porches and parking lots.

All performances are free and open to the public. Fairfield University is also scheduled to host several of the downtown Fairfield performances.

Organizers said Fairfield's event is Connecticut's largest Make Music Day festival. In the eight previous years Fairfield has held the event, more than 100 venues and 350 performers have participated.

In addition to musical performances, several community activities are planned:

Jennings Beach

Sherman Green Gazebo

Organizers also plan to place two weatherized pianos at locations in Fairfield as part of the "Pianos in the Wild" program. The pianos will be available for public use from June 21 through July 21, though organizers noted the end date is subject to change. Locations have not yet been announced.

Make Music Fairfield 2026 is supported by the Town of Fairfield Office of Community and Economic Development, Fairfield Theatre Company, the Connecticut Office of the Arts, Scott Vincent Photography, YZR Music and volunteers, according to organizers.

Additional information, including participating musicians and venues, is available through Make Music Fairfield's Facebook and Instagram accounts, @MakeMusicFairfield.

Information for performers is available at makemusicday.org/fairfield, and organizers can be reached at fairfield@makemusicday.org.
