FAIRFIELD, CT — A 33-year-old New Haven man has been identified as the victim who was killed Thursday when he was electrocuted on top of a Metro-North train near the Southport Train Station.
Nnaemeka S. Ezeife was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1:30 p.m. incident.
He had been involved in a confrontation on Train #1563, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police.
The train's operator had requested police and medical assistance, but Ezeife climbed between the second and third car of the train to the roof where "he came into contact with the electrified overhead catenary wire."
No other passengers or train staff were injured. They were evacuated from the train at the Southport station.
The station was closed for a few hours following the incident to allow police and fire personnel to investigate.
