Facebook Marketplace Transaction Ends In Armed Robbery In Fairfield: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield resident reported being robbed at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace transaction Friday night, according to police.

Fairfield police said officers responded to the area of Jeniford Road at about 10 p.m. after receiving a report of an armed robbery.

The resident told police they had arranged to sell a MacBook through Facebook Marketplace.

"During the transaction, the buyer allegedly displayed a handgun and fled the scene with the laptop without making payment," Fairfield police wrote on Facebook.

Detectives have been assigned to investigate the incident.

"The Fairfield Police Department urges residents to use caution when buying or selling items through online marketplaces with individuals they do not know," police said. "Whenever possible, transactions should be conducted in safe, public locations where other people are present."
