FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's Board of Selectpersons is scheduled to consider appropriating more than $458,000 in opioid settlement funds and approving a 20-year solar power services agreement when it meets Wednesday.
The board will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, in a hybrid format via Zoom and in person in the First Floor Conference Room at Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road. The agenda can be viewed here; see Zoom and other streaming information below.
Among the meeting's most significant items is a proposal to appropriate $458,459.49 in national opioid settlement funds for eligible substance use disorder prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, overdose prevention, public education and related remediation efforts. The proposal would also authorize the first selectperson to execute documents needed to implement the appropriation. The item also requires approval from the Board of Finance and the Representative Town Meeting.
The board is also scheduled to consider a 20-year solar power services agreement between the town and Borrelli Solar LLC under United Illuminating's Non-Residential Renewable Energy Solutions Program. The agreement would authorize the town to sell electricity generated by a solar-powered electric generating system to United Illuminating and would authorize the first selectperson to sign related documents.
Another agenda item calls for the board to hear, consider and act on a resolution confirming Fairfield's participation with the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority in a regional household hazardous waste collection center. The proposal also requires Representative Town Meeting approval.
The board is expected to review a proposed reallocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds and receive an update on the town's fiscal year 2028 capital plan.
Appointments on the agenda include an informational appointment of a Police and Fire Retirement Board union representative and an appointment to the Solid Waste and Recycling Commission, which requires Representative Town Meeting approval. The board will also receive the resignation of a member of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee.
Other scheduled business includes reviewing and approving the June 23 meeting minutes and considering $79,446.96 in tax refunds recommended by the tax collector.
First Selectperson Christine Vitale is expected to provide updates on several initiatives, including a July 14 public information session on Vision Zero, speed safety cameras and roadway safety; security enhancements at Town Hall; the Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan public survey; and the resolution of a FEMA compliance issue at Penfield Pavilion.
