FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield residents who live in flood-prone areas can park their vehicles at the Mill Plain Commuter Lot into Tuesday, "if they are concerned about rising water levels," officials announced.

Weather forecasts estimate that heavy rains will continue in the state into Tuesday, with the potential localized flooding.

"Fairfield Police, Fire, Public Works, and Emergency Management personnel are actively monitoring the storm and remain in communication with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) Region 1 and state partners," officials wrote in a statement.

Additionally, authorities urge residents to use caution while traveling in Fairfield and beyond, and consider avoiding unnecessary travel altogether during heavy rains.

"Never drive through flooded roadways," officials said.
