Fairfield WPCA To Review Sewer Requests, FY27 Sewer Tax Rate Hearing Schedule

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Water Pollution Control Authority is scheduled to consider several sewer connection requests for proposed residential developments, including a request to waive more than $11,000 in infiltration and inflow abatement fees for a Habitat for Humanity-affiliated housing project, when it meets Wednesday.

The authority's regular meeting is set for 7 p.m. , July 15, in a hybrid format, with members meeting in-person in the first-floor conference room at Sullivan Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road, while the public also has the option to participate via Zoom. Among the agenda's most significant items is a request to hear, consider and act on waiving an $11,155.77 infiltration and inflow (I/I) abatement fee for a proposal by the Town of Fairfield and Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County. The project would replace two existing single-family homes at 385 and 409 Quincy St. with two duplex buildings, each containing two two-bedroom, one-bathroom units.

The authority also is scheduled to discuss the timeline for the Fiscal Year 2027 Sewer Tax Rate Hearing. According to the agenda, proposed sewer tax rates are expected to be presented and discussed during the board's Aug. 19 meeting, with final rates to be adopted before Sept. 4 to allow for timely billing.

Several development-related sewer requests are also listed for possible action. The authority may review a modified sewer connection request for a proposed residential development at 110 Woodrow Ave. The applicant's original connection request was approved in May 2023 and has not expired.

Additional items include requests to hear, consider and act on a sewer connection with an exemption from flow metering for a proposed residential addition to an existing commercial development at 525 Tunxis Hill Road, and a sewer connection request for a proposed residential development at 1 and 59 Post Road.

The authority is also scheduled to hear a monthly bypass report and compliance update, as well as updates on the FY27 capital planning schedule and the Center Street Pump Station and Force Main project.
