Pequot Library Announces August Events Featuring Car Show, And More

The Southport-based library offers exhibits, wellness classes, concerts, teen activities and public events throughout the month.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Pequot Library will host a series of community, history, wellness and family programs in August, including two new events on its Great Lawn and continued programming tied to the nation's 250th anniversary.

Among the featured events is the inaugural Velocity in Volumes | A Literary and Automotive Art Experience, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature antique automobiles, race cars, custom vehicles, classic cars and modern sports cars displayed on the library grounds.

The library also will hold its inaugural Community Feast on the Great Lawn on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. Organized in coordination with 10 local organizations and nonprofits, the event invites community members to share a meal on the Great Lawn.

Pequot Library's summer Special Collections exhibition, "UNFINISHED REVOLUTION: 250 Years of Marking American Independence," remains on view through Sept. 26. The exhibition features historic speeches, photographs, diaries and souvenirs from the Centennial and Bicentennial that document celebrations of American independence in Southport and beyond.

Most library programs are free and open to the public. Recurring offerings include Mahjong 101, Genealogy Roundtable and Chess Club for children.
