Black Bear Spotted Roaming Through Fairfield Yard: Animal Control

"Black bears are active throughout Connecticut, and sightings in Fairfield are not uncommon."

FAIRFIELD, CT — A black bear was spotted recently roaming through a Hemlock Hill Road yard in Fairfield, and the town's Animal Control division advised residents to be on the lookout for the creatures.

"Black bears are active throughout Connecticut, and sightings in Fairfield are not uncommon," animal control officials wrote on Facebook. "If you see a bear, give it plenty of space and allow it to move along on its own."

Hundreds of bear sightings have been reported in the Connecticut in 2026, according figures from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Hemlock Hill Road homeowners were able to capture Ring surveillance video of the incident; click here to view the footage.

Animal Control offered residents the following tips to discourage bears from staying in an area:

"If you see a bear in Fairfield, please contact Fairfield Animal Control so we can continue to track sightings and locations," officials said.
