FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Arts Commission is seeking local artists for a planned public mural at Harry's Corner Plaza, 2090-2130 Post Road.
Professional artists age 18 and older who live in Fairfield or the surrounding area may submit expressions of interest by Thursday, Sept. 10. Priority will be given to artists with previous mural experience.
Artists do not have to live in Fairfield but must demonstrate a connection to the town through work, school, family, recreation or other ties.
The commission plans to select up to three finalists to develop full-color concept proposals. Each finalist will receive a $250 stipend.
The project has a total budget of $10,000, including all artist costs. The commission hopes to complete the mural before the end of the year.
Members of the Fairfield Arts Commission, in consultation with project sponsors, will select the artwork based on artistic excellence, experience, body of work, creativity, relevance to the theme and suitability for public display.
"This is a really unique opportunity to help beautify our community and support local artists," Fairfield Arts Commission Chair Charlie MacDonald said. "We are truly grateful to Harry's Corner for offering wall space for this mural as well as their generous support for the arts and so many other local causes."
The commission is also seeking additional sponsors for the project. Those interested in supporting the mural can contact the Fairfield Arts Commission at arts@fairfieldct.org.
Artists should consult the commission's solicitation for additional submission information.
