Four Reasons To Re-Elect State Rep. Jennifer Leeper

We in Fairfield's 132nd district are fortunate to have a candidate running for re-election to the General Assembly this year who is as capable, wise, respected and effective as Jennifer Leeper. First elected in 2020, here are four reasons why I will again be voting for her this November and urge others to do the same:

1. She delivers for the Town of Fairfield. She spearheaded the passage of a bipartisan state budget adjustment package in the last General Assembly session that increased funding for Fairfield by just under $1 million bringing Fairfield's total municipal aid to just under $10 million. Additionally, take a look at the nearly completed work rebuilding the storm ravaged Lower Wharf area in beautiful Southport Harbor. When I was Fairfield Harbor Management Commission chair three years ago, we went to Jenn first for guidance on getting the bonding money needed to pay for repairs. Long story short--with help from several others in local government, we got $1.07 million in support from the Connecticut State Bond Commission.

2. She's earned important seniority in the General Assembly. She's now Chair of the Education Committee. That means she has the power to set priorities for new laws to help provide financial relief for local school districts, to help local communities to set local policy for use of cell phones in public schools and, among other things, to enhance accountability and safety in home school education across Connecticut.

3. She's vigilant and highly energetic. From my perspective, she was the first elected official to get out in front and work to question UI's unsuccessful drive to construct giant, towering monopoles through our town. In fact, she also helped introduce new laws making it much harder for any utility to push projects through the Connecticut Siting Council if they pose significant environmental risks and negative community impacts.

4. She's not a mudslinger. She's nice. She's a mom who doesn't take guff (she and her husband have two young sons...) and she's a strong debater but she also refuses to get drawn into the swamp of negative campaign rhetoric sadly common in Washington and elsewhere these days. I'm proud to support Jennifer Leeper's bid for re-election as our state representative from the 132nd General Assembly District.
