Officials said the incidents represent a change from coyote activity previously reported in Fairfield and urged residents in the affected areas to take additional precautions.

Residents are advised not to approach, follow, corner or attempt to interact with coyotes. Dogs should be kept leashed and close to their owners when outside, and pets should not be left outdoors unattended, regardless of their size or whether the yard is fenced.

Anyone who encounters a coyote should maintain a safe distance and move to a secure location. Residents also should not intentionally feed coyotes or other wildlife and should remove outdoor food sources that could attract them.

Coyote sightings and concerning behavior can be reported to Fairfield Animal Control at 203-254-4857. When Animal Control is not on duty, residents can contact the Fairfield Police Department at 203-254-4800.

Anyone facing a coyote that is actively threatening or attacking a person should call 911.

Fairfield Animal Control and the Police Department are monitoring the situation and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
