FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Representative Town Meeting is scheduled to consider several items involving school infrastructure, public safety and town policy when it meets on Monday, Sept. 28, including authorization related to an air conditioning upgrade at Tomlinson Middle School and an amended contract with the town's firefighters union.
The regular monthly meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Education Center, 501 Kings Highway East. The meeting will be hybrid, with members of the public also able to watch or participate through Zoom. It will be broadcast on FairTV and streamed through FairTV's website and YouTube channel.

The RTM is scheduled to hear, consider and act on a resolution authorizing the Fairfield Board of Education to apply for a state grant for the Tomlinson Middle School Air Conditioning Upgrade Project and to accept or reject a grant if awarded.
The proposal would also designate the IAQ HVAC Building Committee as the building committee for the project and authorize at least the preparation of schematic drawings and outline specifications.
The item was approved by the Board of Selectpersons at its Sept. 16 meeting.
The RTM is also scheduled to consider an amended contract between the town and Fairfield Fire Union, Local 1426. The resolution would extend the contract through June 30, 2029, and incorporate changes involving wages, hours and other employment matters described in a tentative agreement referenced by the agenda.
Firefighters are scheduled to receive salary increases of 3 percent in 2027 and 2028, according to the contract.
Another item would establish an Ordinance Drafting Committee concerning the regulation of personal electric vehicles, or PEVs. The proposal is sponsored by RTM members Laura Karson of District 4, Steve Berecz and Scott Nickel of District 7, and Christopher Carroll of District 8.
Members will also consider accepting and appropriating $13,015 for the town's "Shining Light on Truth" project. The funding consists of a $6,000 Sustainable Connecticut Community Match Fund grant and $7,015 raised through crowdfunding.
According to the resolution, the project is intended to educate the public about the contributions of Fairfield's community of people of African ancestry. Funding would support research, design, fabrication and installation of historical markers and related educational materials at town-owned sites.
The RTM is also scheduled to consider the reappointments of Lee G. Kamlet and Susanne Teitell to the FairTV Commission for terms running from July 2026 to July 2029. The agenda says both appointments are subject to approval by the Board of Selectpersons at its Sept. 16 meeting.
Members are also scheduled to consider appointing Rep. Emma Barron to the Special Legislative Management Committee to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Rob Blanchard.
Separately, RTM Moderator Mark McDermott has referred proposed amendments to the town's Code of Ordinances to the Legislation and Administration Committee. The amendments are sponsored by Michelle McCabe of District 4 and Carroll of District 8. The agenda does not describe the proposed amendments.
The agenda states there will be no live public comment until it is called for by the moderator during the meeting. Residents are also encouraged to submit comments to the RTM through the town's website.
