FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's FairTV Commission voted Wednesday to reject a request to cover an Oct. 7 political forum because of staffing constraints, while agreeing to cover a separate candidate forum later in the month if enough staff members are available.
The commission made the decisions during a special meeting held via Zoom. Click here to view the commission's unapproved minutes from the Sept. 30 meeting.
Secretary Lee Kamlet made a motion to deny a request from the Fairfield Education Association to cover its Tuesday, Oct. 7, political forum for state representative and state Senate candidates, citing inadequate staffing.
Tuesday's political forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium at Fairfield Warde High School, 755 Melville Ave.
Commission member James Honeycutt seconded the motion, which passed 3-0.
The commission separately approved plans to cover, broadcast and record an Oct. 20 candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Fairfield, provided adequate staffing is available.
Vice Chair Pete Klein made the motion, which Honeycutt seconded. It also passed 3-0.
Klein, Kamlet and Honeycutt attended the meeting, along with FairTV Manager Luke Altieri. The commission's independent seat was listed as vacant.
The commission also unanimously approved minutes from its July 20 regular meeting.
The FairTV Commission's next regularly scheduled meeting is Oct. 19.
